Some of you may have noticed an increase in the number of skipped ad impressions that you’re seeing on your developer dashboard. But never fear, there is nothing wrong with your game! :)
Many of our developers are seeing an increased number of skips due to our new Peel Away ad format. Anytime a gamer visits your leaderboards, this counts as an ad impression in our reporting. If an ad does not show for whatever reason to that user, it is reported as a skipped ad impression. The Peel Away ad will not show in your game if one of these things is true:
- Your Leaderboard background is set to transparent, and therefore Peel Away ads are not turned on. You must manually turn on the ads.
- Your game size is smaller than 500×400 pixels. Your game is using leaderboards but is not large enough to show Peel Away ads. Note: In this particular case where the game is too small, it will not be recorded as a skipped impression in in your stats.
- Your game is not approved for MochiAds advertising, so Peel Away ads are not showing. You are using the leaderboards service but are not approved for ads in your game.
- The person playing your game is not located in the United States, so there are no Peel Away ads to show them. We are running in the US only for our early test, expect more coverage in the future.
- The person playing your game from a domain filtered site, and no ads are showing.
- The person playing your game has a slow connection to our ad server. If this is the case, the ad server connection times out, an ad does not show, and a skip is registered.
If any of the above items is true, the gamer will not see a Peel Away ad in your game. For those of you monitoring the analytics tab of your game that provides domain and country level stats, the “Impressions” stat is inclusive of impressions and skips. Any leaderboard views will be reported as a skipped ad impression with $0 CPM from the domain “mochiads.com”
You can change your Peel Away ad settings by visiting your dashboard. Click into the game you’d like to access, and select “ad settings.” From there, select the “edit” button next to “default ad settings” and make your changes under the “Leaderboard Ads” menu.

When do you expect the peel away ads to work in countries outside the US?
Tudway,
I can’t give you an exact date but we’re hoping very soon. We are making sure any kinks are worked out, and then our sales team has to go out and sell it. =)
ok, awesome.
I really don’t understand why it is counted as skipped, if it’s either disabled, in a location where it’s not available, too small a game, etc.
This makes the stats rather useless.
If I chose not to have peel away ads, why should it be counted as skipped?
That gives me no way to see the stats that matter, and see if any ads that are suppose to show are not showing.
Also that just showing the leader board counts as an impression, regardless of whether it is set to show ads or not, makes the impression stats useless.
@Jesper – You are absolutely correct. We’ll be fixing the problem as soon as we can. The ad works very differently than previous ad calls and we didn’t have the time to rework the stats. It’s a necessary evil for the time being but as soon as we can we’ll get those numbers out of your skipped count.
Ok, at least it’s just temporary then, thanks
