Here at Mochi we are always interested in hearing about your ideas and foster creativity within your mind as a developer and game creator. We’re also here to help you monetize those things so you’re able to continue to pursue the road of game creation as either a hobby, part-time money maker or serious profession. That is why we are starting a MochiCoins Premium program. We are currently in Beta as we want to be able to measure what the inbound load will be like. As more developers get used to MochiCoins and want to monetize via this method of microtransaction, we will edit the program accordingly.
What is the MochiCoins Premium Program?
You may have already noticed that some games in our system our listed as MochiCoins Premium Games. For the most part, these are games where the developers have contacted us early on in the development phase and discussed different avenues of microtransaction implementations. We worked together with these developers to beta test their games, provide feedback on “how it felt” along with any other critiques we thought could help their game’s experience.
Consider this a free service that helps you get as much feedback as possible, as early as possible, to maximize the realized potential of your game. By no means is this a program that will disallow you from any of the other services and products that Mochi provides. It’s just a little something extra because, well, I like playing games and talking about design all the time. All the details are outlined below.
How does one enter the Mochi Coins Premium Program?
- Only uses MochiCoins
- Contact us early on in the game’s development to formulate a plan on Coins integration
- Open line of communication throughout entire development process for assistance and game review
- Game will go through the same QA process as all other Coins games
- There will be a overall rating of the game to make sure its quality is up to par with other games in the program. Some key metrics that play a role in determining whether or not the game will be accepted are the following:
- Graphics: The game must have an aesthetically pleasing look to it. It cannot look like someone spent two minutes in Paint to create the entire asset pack. Stealing graphics from outside sources, such as sprites from your favorite 16-bit game, is not allowed. Licensed graphics are permitted or anything else fulfilling the requirements of a Creative Commons license issued by the original author.
- Gameplay: The game is free to have anything from a simple button clicking to deep RPG design. The main focus is that the game is designed well and encourages fun and player engagement. This is a very crucial element of the program as the game has to have an overall quality of just being good. We understand that this is subjective, but it is something we will be able to work with you based on what your early prototypes look like.
- Sound: Hollywood sound effects and music need not be the standard, but some thought should be put into the soundtrack of the game. Stealing music from outside sources, like your favorite anime or trance album, is not allowed. Licensed music is permitted or anything else fulfilling the requirements of a Creative Commons license issued by the original author.
- Coins Implementation: It is also key that the implementation of the Mochi Coins itself is good. Basic practices as outlined in the MochiCoins Best Practices article series is a great place to start. We will also assist in this realm once we see the potential from an early prototype.
What are the benefits of the program?
- The game will be featured on mochigames.com as a Premium game. Only Coins games that are Featured or Premium will be on this site. All other games will appear in the standard Mochi game feeds as normal.
- Game will be featured in future newsletters that go out to Mochi’s Publisher program.
- Game will be featured in future posts on MochiLand.
- Game will be submitted to as many indie game development blogs as possible.
- Game will be part of a select group of games that have also passed this quality bar.
- Game gets to use a fancy graphic strictly created for the program (work in progress).
- More efforts will be made to drive traffic to games of the Mochi Coins Premium Program.
- We will try our best to aid in finding your game a sponsor.
What if my game is not accepted into the program?
If your game is not accepted, we will always provide the reasoning behind our decision. It could be that we feel that the gameplay experience does not meet those of other Premium games in the system or it could be as simple as the Coins implementation needs work.
Keep in mind that not being accepted the first time around does not eliminate all chances of being a part of the program. You should address these concerns and resubmit for approval. We’re here to help you make the best games possible.
Can I still use Coins if my game is not accepted into the Premium Program?
Yes! This program is simply to help those wishing to have their games vetted by the Mochi team and to help make a game we all think will have the most earning potential. If you are not accepted, you are completely free to use the Coins system and will be approved as per the standard process.
Can my game become a Premium Game without contacting you?
Yes! We have seen some games come into our system that were absolutely fantastic the moment we saw them. This is isn’t a common occurrence, but it has happened. For those that were almost there, we offered a few helpful suggestions and promptly put them in the Premium Games feed.
