Leaderboards 2.0 Highlights
- The new challenges feature enables gamers to invite their friends to compete. This means more traffic and game plays for your games!
- Publishers can get new traffic back to their site by implementing the publisher bridge
- Slick new interface for Leaderboards
The New Leaderboards Challenges Feature
For developers, adding the MochiAds leaderboards is exactly the same, and you don’t have to lift a finger to take advantage of this improvement. When a gamer views your leaderboard, they will see a new challenges option on the board. This allows them to challenge their friends to private competitions for the highest score. They can specify the time period for a challenge (1 week, 2 weeks or 1 month) and either send links or invite their friends via email. When their friends receive the challenge, they can play the game too and see a challenge-specific leaderboard to compete against their friends.
Developers who have customized their leaderboards game are strongly advised to check that the new leaderboards will show up properly. Read below to find out how.
If a publisher integrates our the Integrated Leaderboards, they can take advantage of this new traffic — the invited friends will go back to the original site they were invited from. Otherwise, they will play the game on mochiads.com.
Publishers, if you’d like this extra traffic, please integrate the Publisher bride. Read below to find out how.
Developers: How to check your existing leaderboards-enabled game
Version 2.0 of the Leaderboards default to a different size than the original leaderboards. If you have custom graphics, or any UI shown around the leaderboard, then some of these elements may be hidden from the players view. Here is the difference between v1 and v2 of the leaderboards.
Original Leaderboard specs:
- Default width: ~405 pixels – The width would change if you specified a smaller board via the showLeaderboad parameters, OR if you removed columns via the advanced settings in the MochiAds Developer tool.
- Default height: ~250 pixels – The height would change if you provided a height via the showLeaderboad parameters
- Smallest width: ~250 pixels – If you turned off all the optional columns via the MochiAds developer tool
New Leaderboard specs:
- Default width: ~450 pixels
- Default height: ~350 pixels
- Smallest height: ~360 pixels
- Smallest width: ~380 pixels
Viewing your game to test:
If your game is distribution enabled, then you can visit the mochiads site to see what the new boards look like.

Publishers: How to get extra traffic from Leaderboards
When you add the MochiAds publisher bridge to your game pages, it opens up new features on all MochiAds Leaderboard games. With the new v2.0 Leaderboards, your Publisher Bridge will bring all invited players back to your site to play the game. The integration is simple and can be done with a simple copy and paste of HTML code. To grab your Bridge Script visit the settings tab of your account at: http://www.mochiads.com/pub/settings
1. Login to your MochiAds account and visit the publisher section
2. Click on the ’settings’ tab near the top of the page.
3. Scroll down to the section titled ‘Publisher Bridge’
4. Copy and past the script onto your game page template. It should be anywhere above the

One Word, SWEET!
Scrolling does not work properly after submitting a score, on the sample game you linked to.
When dragging the thing on the right, the list does not scroll.
I tested this in Firefox 2.0.0.18, Internet Explorer 6 and Opera 9.27
Also the loading icon is still not centered.
Hi Proto. The loading icon has always intentionally been on the upper left. On the scrolling, I can drag the scrollbar in a challenge score list with many scores with no problem, is that what you’re referring to?
It seems like there are two surfaces on the scroll bar, and the top one does not do anything, but when you click, it’s only the top one you grab, so you have to move the top one out of the way first.
I made a screen capture so you can see:

Well it looks bad that the loading icon is on the upper left. That means people don’t notice it, and think the game froze instead of loading the highscores.
Hi,
I’ve post the example game http://www.mochiads.com/games/ryokan/ to my site, but if i play with it in my site, it shows the old leaderboard instead of the new one. Is it normal yet, or have I modify something to work?
My favorite part about all this is that I don’t have to republish my games. I just went through all of them (only 4 but still) and updated them with the latest mochibot, mochiads (begin of game and interlevel) and leaderboards. Thankfully I will just sit back and wait for the update to be released.
@Tacos N Tonic, Leroy: Thanks for the great feedback. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts after it goes out :)
@Peter: Right now you can see the new leaderboards on any leaderboards-enabled game that is played on the MochiAds site through a URL such as http://www.mochiads.com/games/{game-slug}.
We haven’t turned it on for your domain yet. To see it in action, go directly to the Ryokan link and click high scores from the menu.

Im experiencing the same thing as proto is showing in the video
Thanks Proto and Bigz, we’re investigating this issue.
Challenges are working but the link takes the players to MochiAds.com to play the game. Is this a bug?
Hi Rob,
Did you implement the MochiAds publisher bridge? If not, then it is working as designed. We need you to add the bridge so we can send invited players back to your site.
Is it possible to customize the background on the new widget?
I have a dark background on my site and the new white widget doesn’t look very nice :(
Take a look at this:

Ada,
Can I email you offline about this issue?
@johan – yes, there’s a new parameter, bkgdColor, that allows this. We need to update the docs. Here’s an example:
http://www.sploder.com/arcade/play/bloons/
Mochi.showLeaderboardWidget({
game: “bloons”,
partnerID: “[[partner-id]]”,
id: “leaderboard_widget”,
bkgdColor: “#000000″,
textColor: “#ffffff”,
buttonColor: “#cc00ff”,
linkColor: “#cc00ff”,
width: 640,
height: 480
});
Hi,
Is it possible to customize or translate to our language the leaderboard screen on my site?
when I created a new game with high score capability… I tested my game and each time I tested this the new checkbox to ‘challenge your friends to beat this score’ my game seems to freeze, any suggestions,… I think the leaderboard 2.0 is awesome. You can link to my game at http://www.arcadiasolutionsco.com/flash%20games/turkey%20match/turkey%20match.html
Let me know what’s going on,… I’d really appreciate it. And happy Thanksgiving to you all… :),… Mochi Rocks…
