Improved Reporting to Understand eCPM

Have you ever wondered what’s going on behind the eCPM that you see on your dashboard? Hot out of the oven, we’ve released a neat new feature that tells you more about where your game is being played, and what type of CPMs you’re getting from it. Find it on the game overview page after you click into your game on the main developer dashboard.

Using this tool, you can see what CPM you are receiving for your game by country of the gamer and by domain the game is being played on. This is different from MochiBot data because it doesn’t just show where your SWF files are hosted, but instead gives you information on domains where your games are being played and where your gamers are from.

Here’s a simple example of how to read this. My game receives an eCPM of $0.22 and I click through to the game profile to look at my analytics.

My game received 55,000 impressions total today:

  • 5,000 impressions in the United States at $2.00 CPM (total earnings is $10.00).
  • 50,000 impressions in Thailand at $0.05 CPM (total is $2.50)

In this day I make $12.50 total. However, even though I am getting a high CPM in the United States and other countries where the advertisements are worth a lot, my combined eCPM that I see on my dashboard will be a lot lower. My combined eCPM will be showing that I showed 55,000 ads and received $12.50 for them, or that I have a total eCPM of $0.22.

Even if your game gets 100,000 plays in a 5 cent CPM country, that only equates to about $5 in payments. If you were to get only 2,500 plays at a $2 CPM in a high-value country, you’d be able to make $5 from much fewer plays.
