A lot of people have been asking me what the term “Flash Pirates” means on the MochiBot homepage. In short, Flash Pirates are people who copy the Flash content that you’ve developed and put it on their own website.
Flash Pirates can either be a good thing or a bad thing. It all depends on how you look at it. Having your Flash work copied to someone else’s website can be good because that means someone likes what you’ve built and it also helps to share your work with a larger audience. However, it can also be a bad thing if the Flash Pirates take credit for your work. Arrrggghhh!
Typically it’s a good thing when someone puts forth the effort to copy, host and share your Flash work. The only problem with that is once your Flash files leave your server you have no way of seeing how much traffic that content is generating. With MochiBot, though, Flash developers are able to see how much traffic their work is generating no matter how many Flash Pirates get a hold of it. Most people don’t even know that their Flash work gets copied and hosted on other websites. You’d be surprised how many pirates are out there.

Yes, they can take the MochiBot code out, but they can also reverse engineer any encryption scheme used. MochiBot’s goal is to keep you informed of who’s hosting your SWF and how many pople are viewing it. MochiBot is not meant to be a security tool.
Except however, there are tools that allow you to change or strip code out of SWFs too, and so the tracking code is easily removed. See…

I’ve red about MochiBot and I think it will have success.
As a free online games designer, I’ve been always curious to see where my free games are going and this soft seems to provide you the easy way to do this. I just hope will stay free long enough to have the time to use its advantages
